The gap we discovered

Professional album companies only sell to businesses and photographers. You literally can't see prices or even place an order unless you're admitted to their exclusive club. That felt wrong to us. Plenty of people deserve professional-quality albums - there shouldn't be gatekeepers deciding who gets access to albums that actually last.

The Canadian guy who ended up in Gävle, Sweden after circling around hockey rinks for many years

Their stories are strange, their wives are patient. Here's how two guys from opposite sides of the world ended up fixing the album industry. The two first met in 2012 at a photography workshop Cole hosted on a boat in Stockholm - because apparently regular venues are for amateurs. Mark attended, they hit it off, and somehow one workshop on a floating classroom led to this entire adventure. From boats to mountaintops to albums - their wives still don't understand the logic.

The Journey

Both started photographing weddings worlds apart around 2010. Fast-forward to 2015 and Cole started a conference for wedding photographers in Stockholm (Way Up North), where Mark sponsored it with his album company (Wooden Banana). Small beginnings - so small that Mark was assembling boxes with his wife the night before. By 2018, they were hosting Roadie Workshops together.

Picture two guys in their 40s leading groups of photographers up mountainsides at 4AM in snowstorms - those were the kind of workshops they were hosting. But it was during these adventures - from Icelandic glaciers to Madeiran cliffs - that the constant brainstorming happened. Somewhere between teaching photography and dodging weather, Happy Albums took shape through endless conversations about making professional albums accessible to everyone.
